Art Nouveau

I like this one by Amy Sol because there are things coming out of the girls hair

I also liked this one because the dove/bird looks nice and acts like a bowl

this one seemed cool because only the skin of head neck and hands are showing

I like these three because the whole design is really nice and sticks to 2-3 colors.

My Chosen Recipe w Herb

This is a family recipe, my father cooks it a lot. It is tofu cooked adobo style. I wondered if it would taste the same way my father made his tofu adobo. I think the reason we grew herbs was to experience growing our own food for once, and just to USE LESS STUFF!!! If we grow it and bring it home, we won't use all that plastic and packaging stuff, or the gas and fuel (to bring it to the store and then to our house) that we would have used if we would have bought it from a groceries store. The garlic that my group grew was kind of shameful because the it was slowly withering. The cooking was fun though I wish I would have made the tofu more saucy. The amount of garlic I used was perfect. The tofu looked amazing as soon as I drizzled the soy sauce on. it was great with some ricwe and other veggies. The herbs did not really change the way I think because I already try not to waste resourses and I already garden at home.

1) Dice the tofu while heating the pan
2) Put tofu on pan heated in between medium and high.

3) Cook the tofu until it is some what dry. In the meantime squeeze garlic through the garlic press (you can put as much as you want).

4) Dribble olive oil on the tofu and then apply the pressed garlic.

5) Keep the tofu browning and try to brown each side evenly.

6) As soon as the garlic is turned brown, turn the heat off. Add soy sauce an a little vinegar.

7) Enjoy!!!

Reading a "This I Believe" Essay

This is a cool essay by tony hawk, "do what you love". Because we should do what we love and be able to do what we love as long as you don't disturb society and the people around you. I like how he uses skating to express himself. I will express myself in tennis.

Print (with photos)
Ingredients
2 cups fresh basil leaves, packed
1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan-Reggiano or Romano cheese
1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/3 cup pine nuts or walnuts
3 medium sized garlic cloves, minced
Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Special equipment needed: A food processor (Check Amazon.com's sale on Cuisinart food processors.)
Method
1 Combine the basil in with the pine nuts, pulse a few times in a food processor. (If you are using walnuts instead of pine nuts and they are not already chopped, pulse them a few times first, before adding the basil.) Add the garlic, pulse a few times more.
2 Slowly add the olive oil in a constant stream while the food processor is on. Stop to scrape down the sides of the food processor with a rubber spatula. Add the grated cheese and pulse again until blended. Add a pinch of salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
Makes 1 cup.
Serve with pasta, or over baked potatoes, or spread over toasted baguette slices.

farmers market

My interviewee's name was Aundery Johnson and and sells fruits for 'Smit Orchards' at the farmers market. She also goes around and shops for the stuff she needs there because she is already at the farmers market, why go anywhere else. she started coming to the farmers market about a week ago. She says she gardens at home. She found out about the farmers market when she started working for her current company. She said that if you want the best fresh stuff you should come here.

The farmers market was mostly what I had expected though some of the stuff that was sold was even from foreign countries.

Me and my family visit the farmers market often mostly for the tamales, and yes I will probably go more often

Well it's organic with no pesticides, so no harm done to the environment, so that's sustainable already. Then it's all made or grown locally and that's sustainable because it didn't take much fuel to get here.

Ecological Intelligence

Ecological Intelligence is when you know where the stuff you are buying was made and how it was made and to understand that it was a waste to make on such a finite planet.

The essential questions were:
Why don’t people live more sustainably?
How can I convince them to do so?

This article;

is the related to the essential questions because having ecological intelligence would help you to live more sustainably, and you can help people understand the process of products and make them think twice when shopping. It may make them reduce there share of damage to the earth.

I think I have some level of understanding when it comes to ecological intelligence. when I go to any store I usually would think about how some of the products even get to the store shelf. let alone all the waste that was created to even make the products.

erratic retaliation

1. Anthropomorphism: an interpretation of what is not human. I think that Ishmael is talking about how humans always think what animals do in the human sense not only because we are used to seeing the kind of behavior, but think that the human way is the correct way. Just like in the consecutive lines after the mention of this word, Ishmael talks about animals and territories. Animals have no want for territory, nor do they need it. We just think that animals are claiming land for themselves because that is what humans do. Really though, the animals are just taking land that has the resources to keep them living.

2.
a.Erratic retaliation is kind of like saying if it's my land and my resoures, I attack, and you run away. If it's your land and your resourses run. In the case of the Cawks, this means that if one tribe starts to irk another tribe, the tribe being irked will try and bother the other tribe, so that they can be even.

b. Erratic Retaliation is a peacekeeping method because it makes the peaceful Cawk tribes protect themselves, instead of just being desroyied by other more aggressive Cawk tribes.

c. Cawks don’t destroy eachother because that would be useless. What I am saying, the Cawks don’t kill themselves because that would not help them advance. They could never benefit from such a ridiculous act

What struck me was that around 30 people participated in the survey. They actually cared to spend a few minutes to think about a topic and choose an answer. We got many good and useful answers.

When I saw that about 30-40% of the people surveyed would not be embarrassed to shop at thrift stores, I was surprised and encouraged. We should all think about how we can waste fewer resources by re-using things, and by shopping at thrift stores. I'm curious to go check out a thrift store myself now.

My expectations were that people would be more embarrassed to be seen shopping at a thrift store, and that so many of them are actually shopping at thrift stores. My expectations were met because so many people participated.

Base on the findings, I would like to run a campaign that motivates people to shop at thrift stores and reuse more things, particularly clothes. I want the ad campaign to make it look cool and smart to shop at a thrift store, without appearing to be too happy or too organic, poor, or out of style. I would like the ad to also educate people about living more sustainably, not being so wasteful and following the latest fashion, which eats away at the resources of our earth.

path to freedom blog

Their movie is cool because they use their urban property in Pasadena to grow organic fruits and vegetables in their own back yard. They also raise goats, chicken and ducks, which supplies eggs and milk. What struck me is that they make their own bio diesel fuel, and that nobody has to worry about a job, since they live off wht they grow on their land.

Their needs are mostly supplied by what they grow on their land, and by using solar panels and man-powered tools and appliances. They still have to buy clothes, but I can tell they have not bought clothes lately. They try to stay away as much as possible from the culture of the industrialized urban world around them.

Their wants are basically nothing, they are happy with what they have and what the land supplies for them. They only need their love for one another and care for each other, and they are free from the outside pressures of the industrialized world.

Their lifestyle relates to Ishmael because they live more sustainably just like Ishmael is explaining in the story. They live more like hunters and gatherers or the tribes that Ishmael described in his stories of explanation. They live as though the takers were never invented.

I think it is really cool that they live this way, but I would still play sports even if I lived the way they do. I think that they are living a new life style that will be followed by many in future years who want to live sustainably and live free from our destructive and chaotic world.

ISHMAEL QUESTIONS

1)The first way to identify people of our culture is that we keep our food locked away. The hunters and gathers only took what they needed. The second way is that we, perceive our self as born flawed, and that no matter what we do, we cannot change this fact. As for agreeing with Ishmael, I must say that I do not. Not only are there little cultures spread throughout the world, there also people living in the life of older cultures, like the peoples of Africa and South America. In my opinion, if one can't adjust to a new environment within a short amount of time, then they are from a separate culture. If I were to become a hunter and gather, I would have to stop doing everything I do. Like having a refrigerator, or using electricity at all. No more movies or TV or anything like that.

2) I disagree with Ishmael. Probably because I have listened to Mother Culture for all of my life, so that voice is simply there, constantly battling my differences. I also believe that although humans aren't doomed to fail, we are born with sin. This flaw varies, unlike the flaw that Ishmael described. This flaw also changes from heart, perspective, personality, and intelligence.

3)Ishmael's takers and leavers explanation is relevant to how the American culture developed and was made. The idea of all day labor to receive lock and key food originates from 1 small society and/or culture a long time ago that forced it's way around. Today in America we work all day to buy a surplus of food while hunter gatherers work a small portion of the day to receive just the food they needed to survive.

1)To live sustainably is to live with a constant state of life or with a constant process of life. Like this picture above. they call these spheres Ecospheres because they have an almost perfect balance of life. *1Each completely sealed EcoSphere® contains a fully functional, self sustaining, living ecosystem. It is like having your very own miniature world at your fingertips. The EcoSpheres® portray a simplistic example of our Earth's life forms & our interdependence with water. These glass spheres can last or sustain life (for the shrimp) from 5-7 years. The oldest ones that still function are 10 years old (this is pretty rare). To live sustainably is to live in most likely in habit and a livable manor.

2) My freedom as a 14 (almost 15) year old boy is enough for me and my lifestyle right now. I can walk down any street I choose. I can stay home alone without any trouble or even getting into trouble. I don't have to be watched every second of the day. I'm responsible for myself. I could make good changes in our society in my point of view but there will be those who disagree with my changes. So what good would they even if the siltiest amount of people disagree.

3)well to live more sustainably I would need more habits that would help me more in life. for ex. getting ready fast, how to prepare better, how to present my self so I look good in the eyes of others [especially those who are higher than me (in anything like my jobs, boss, manager, supervisor, or my clients with big $$$)] but as of right now I need to get my work done faster, have more of a relationship with distent family, have more good friends (those who stick around when times are good or bad)

This Semester's Goals

In the beginning the school year I was feeling less prepared then I am now. I know how this high school works now and the system of learning. I think that one the most important skills to succeed Humanities is to pay attention. The next one is knowing how to annotate because there is a test after so much reading in this class, annotating fast in necessary due to the excessive amount of reading due in one day. I would like to get help more often when I need help understanding. I guess I am curious about history or my family's history. maybe we could do medieval civilizations now.
