Fresh Basil Pesto Recipe

Ingredients
2 cups fresh basil leaves, packed
1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan-Reggiano or Romano cheese
1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/3 cup pine nuts or walnuts
3 medium sized garlic cloves, minced
Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Special equipment needed: A food processor (Check Amazon.com's sale on Cuisinart food processors.)
Method
1 Combine the basil in with the pine nuts, pulse a few times in a food processor. (If you are using walnuts instead of pine nuts and they are not already chopped, pulse them a few times first, before adding the basil.) Add the garlic, pulse a few times more.
2 Slowly add the olive oil in a constant stream while the food processor is on. Stop to scrape down the sides of the food processor with a rubber spatula. Add the grated cheese and pulse again until blended. Add a pinch of salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
Makes 1 cup.
Serve with pasta, or over baked potatoes, or spread over toasted baguette slices.

DIRECTIONS
Place the basil in a blender. Pour in about 1 tablespoon of the oil, and blend basil into a paste. Gradually add pine nuts, Brazil nuts, Parmesan cheese, garlic, chili powder, and remaining oil. Continue to blend until smooth.

1 tablespoon garlic salt
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon ground paprika

DIRECTIONS
In a small bowl, combine softened butter, minced garlic and parmesan cheese. Season with garlic salt, Italian seasoning, pepper and paprika. Mix until smooth.

farmers market


My interviewee's name was Aundery Johnson and and sells fruits for 'Smit Orchards' at the farmers market. She also goes around and shops for the stuff she needs there because she is already at the farmers market, why go anywhere else. she started coming to the farmers market about a week ago. She says she gardens at home. She found out about the farmers market when she started working for her current company. She said that if you want the best fresh stuff you should come here.

The farmers market was mostly what I had expected though some of the stuff that was sold was even from foreign countries.

Me and my family visit the farmers market often mostly for the tamales, and yes I will probably go more often

Well it's organic with no pesticides, so no harm done to the environment, so that's sustainable already. Then it's all made or grown locally and that's sustainable because it didn't take much fuel to get here.
